The Performing Arts Centre of Excellence (PACE) welcomes everyone to what looks to be a very exciting 2017.

PACE Preparation Day

On the last Friday of the holidays the Jazz Orchestra, Academy Strings, Wind Symphony, Clarinet Ensemble, Fella Voce and Bella Voce ensembles all started learning repertoire for the year at our PACE Preparation Day. Students got a head start on music for the year and it was great to see everyone again and get ready for upcoming performances. Our Years Seven to 12 students had a sneak peek at our PACE Assembly on Monday.

We have various ensembles students can get involved in.

Year Five Music Kick Start Day

On Friday 27 January all Year Five students starting on a band instrument this year had one full day intense training to give them a real kick start to their musical journey. The instruments covered on this day were: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Trumpet, Baritone, Trombone and percussion. In the first session students were split up into instrument groupings and shown how to assemble their instrument and how to produce a sound. The second session covered the first five notes of learning. The third session was ALL IN! The first full band rehearsal after only three hours of learning. The results were fantastic. The day ended with a short concert for parents. The newly formed Year Five Band played some warm up exercises followed by ‘Hot Cross Buns’ and ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’.

Musical – Disney’s The Little Mermaid

On day one of this term, musical rehearsals commenced for our production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid (July 13-16). We hit the ground running with choreography, acting and song rehearsals.

We ask that you remind students in the cast of The Little Mermaid to check rehearsal schedules and ensure they are at rehearsals on time.  If students are feature dancers or mersisters or under the sea creatures they must be at all the rehearsals where it states ‘Sea Creatures’.

If anyone in the cast has not received the rehearsal schedule please email Mr Morgan on

This is sure to be a fabulous show.

We communicate with parents and students a lot through our PACE Facebook (found through the St John’s Facebook page). Please like this page and stay in touch.

Cathedral Concert

Our wonderfully elegant Cathedral Concert at St John’s Cathedral in the city, will be on Thursday 2 March at 7.00pm.  It is followed by supper and is sure to be a beautiful night of wonderful musical performances including a sneak peek of the musical.

FOTA – Friends of the Arts

Our first FOTA meeting will be on Wednesday 8 February at 6.00pm in the Performing Arts Staffroom on the Secondary Campus (in the demountable building near the Auditorium). We would love more parents involved to support the Arts. Please come along.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the PACE events this year.
