What’s Coming Up?
The annual Interhouse Eisteddfod is taking place next week and students have been busily preparing to compete in the various sections. Judging will take place on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 September and a Concert showcasing the outstanding performances will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday 19 September, commencing at 1.30pm in Living Faith Chapel. Family members are welcome to attend.
The students involved in Dance at St John’s will be presenting a night of entertainment on Thursday 20 September, commencing at 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome to come along.
In preparation for this special event, the Primary dancers will travel by College bus to the secondary campus for a rehearsal on Wednesday afternoon at 3.00pm, and be collected from there, at the conclusion of the rehearsal, by their parents at 5.00pm. Information for the dance students regarding the Dance Night has already been sent home to families. Please contact your child’s dance teacher, Mrs Hawken, Ms Hurley, Mrs Boudjema or Miss Brookman if you have any questions.
On Friday 21 September we will hold another outdoor event – the annual Walkathon. This is a super fun day that involves all the students from Kindergarten through to Year Six. They are all invited to come to school in their sports uniform on this day and wear crazy socks and crazy hats, (as long as they are sun safe). Students are encouraged to gain sponsors for their walk and see how much money they can raise to support the P&F fund raising initiatives. This year the Parents and Friends are supporting the Primary STEM Institute and funds raised will be used to enhance our STEM resources. Students who raise the most money will receive prizes for their efforts. We encourage everyone to get involved and look forward to seeing all the brightly coloured socks and hats next week. Families are most welcome to join us on the special occasion.
Term Three Sports Assembly
The Sports Assembly for this term will be held on Friday 20 September at 12noon, in Living Faith Chapel. Family members are welcome to attend and join us in congratulating all the students who participated in sporting activities throughout the term.
On Saturday 13 October we will be opening our Primary College Creations to the Community. Every student at the Primary campus will have an artwork on display in Living Faith Chapel and family members are invited to come along to admire the creative talents of their children.
Mrs Karen Huffels has once again donated one of her original water colour paintings for a raffle and tickets will be available on the day for $1 each of three for $2. We sincerely thank Mrs Huffels for her generous donation. Funds raised will be used to enhance the Visual Art program at St John’s.
College Creations will also be on display at the secondary campus on the evening of Monday 15 October and families are most welcome to visit. Further information about College Creations will be provided soon.
Operation Christmas Child
We will be supporting the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child project again this year and will be encouraging students to consider giving a Christmas gift to a child who lives in disadvantaged circumstances. These gifts are to be small enough to fit into a shoe box that can be easily transported overseas. Suggestions to fill the shoe boxes include:
- Something to wear, like a t-shirt
- Something to play with such as a small ball
- Something for school – pencils and a note book
- Something to love – a teddy bear
- Something for personal hygiene such as a hair brush.
Please use the coming holidays to consider how you can help support the Operation Christmas Child program next term.
