May Movement Challenge

Welcome to the May Movement Challenge, it is time for Archerfield, Bow Qing Tian, Braithwaite and Delbeta to have some fierce competition. To be eligible to compete, you are required to be a Secondary student in Years 7 – 12 and you need to download the fitness app “Strava”. For the remainder of May, you can run, walk, swim or cycle and upload these results to Strava to give your house points.

How to Participate

STEP 1
DOWNLOAD AND JOIN OR SIGN INTO STRAVA APP

If you are joining Strava please use your school email account and set your privacy controls to “followers only” for your profile, activities and group activities and “no one” for FlyBy. You can also add a privacy zone to hide any activity that starts or ends with a specific radius if you wish.

Join our St John’s Sport Strava Club

     STEP 2 
FIND A WAY TO RECORD YOUR RUN/WALK/CYCLE/SWIM

You can do this by using the Strava app on your phone and run/walk/cycle or swim with your phone once you have hit the record button. Alternatively, if you have a GPS Watch (Garmin, TomTom, Apple, Fitbit etc) you can link it to your Strava account

STEP 3
COMPLETE AND RECORD YOUR WORKOUTS THROUGHOUT THE MONTH OF MAY

Anytime from Friday 1 May- Sunday 31 May 2020 you can record as many workouts of your choice on Strava which will give points to your house.

STEP 4
UPLOAD YOUR RUN/WALK/SWIM/CYCLE TO STRAVA

When you upload your run to Strava you MUST tag your house in the description

Run 1-5 km (5 Points) 5km+ (10 Points)
Walk 1-5 km (5 Points) 5km+ (10 Points)
Swim 25m-1km (5 Points) 1km-5km (10 Points)
Cycle 1-10km (5 Points) 10-20km (10 Points)

The house with the most points by the end of May 2020 WINS!! Good Luck!

GDC Fitness Virtual Training Sessions
Our dedicated Basketball Coordinator, Gavin de la Cruz who has worked with the St John’s Sports department for many years is also a dedicated fitness professional and runs GDC Fitness Virtual Training Sessions. Gavin has been very supportive of our sports program at St John’s and has invited the community to join his online fitness sessions and zoom meetings.

If you are looking to stay fit and kept accountable during this time, simply follow these easy steps below:

  1.  Families must be on Facebook
  2.  Search for “GDC Fitness Virtual Training Session
  3.  Request to join group
  4.  When Approval is completed a Registration Information message will be sent
  5. Part of GDC Virtual Training Session is to participate online via “Zoom” so techniques can be observed, and fault correction can be done.
  6.  There is no cost involved for our families, simply participate in this fun and interactive session.
