Lake Side Reflection

Welcome to Term 3! A very special term as we continue to celebrate and give thanks to God for St John’s College who has been serving the community for 25 years.

At the beginning of the year I had the great privilege of being invited by Catholic Education Melbourne to run two workshops on Prayer Spaces in Schools at their Religious Education Conference. The Conference was titled, “Open New Horizons for Spreading Joy.” It was wonderful to mix with Catholic Education staff and members of churches, many who were interested in Prayer Spaces. 75 people attended the two workshops. I also created two Prayer Spaces for the conference and most conference delegates took time to explore them.  The workshops and Prayer Spaces created an excellent opportunity to share and talk about Prayer Spaces in Schools as all the delegates said they had never heard of the concept. During the two workshops, there was a very strong positive and inquisitive curiosity. There were numerous questions and many connections made.

St John’s Anglican College was one of the first schools in Australia to hold a Prayer Space. Since then there have been many other schools of different denominations and parishes who have created a Prayer Space. We should feel very proud of our school that we introduced this invitational, creative and prayerful space to the Australian culture.

This term our year 12 students are creating the Prayer Space for the senior school as part of their RaVe class. There will be opportunities for staff, families and students to explore the Prayer Space created by the year 12 students in week 6 and 7.
