What’s Been Happening at St John’s
Our annual swimming carnival held at Waterworx Springfield on Tuesday 14 November was highly successful with good weather and super enthusiastic children participating in all events. It was great to see so many family members able to join us and cheer on the children as they swam. Students received their ribbons on the day and age champions will be announced at the Sports Assembly to be held on Thursday 30 November at 12 noon. Parents and family members are welcome to attend this assembly.
Queensland Opera Visits Year Three
The Year Three students laughed and laughed when Queensland Opera performed Hansel and Gretel for them last week. The students are now very inspired to experiment with their own fractured fairy tales and make the classics even more entertaining.
The Year Five students were very intrigued by what they saw and experienced during their Science Incursion held last week. Exploring different states of matter they discovered how materials can change shape under various conditions. A great deal of fun was had by all!
On Friday 10 November the Year Five students participated in a Performing Arts Showcase in Living Faith Chapel. The children demonstrated their musical talents and all in attendance were amazed at the progress they have made on their instruments in such as short space of time.
St John’s Teachers Share their Expertise
Two groups of our primary teachers showcased their expertise in Inquiry Learning and Visible Thinking at recent colloquiums conducted by Independent Schools Queensland. We congratulate Mrs Elizabeth Wilson and Mrs Fiona Boudjema for the research they have conducted and presented on Visible Thinking Routines, and we commend Mrs Hannah Stone, Mrs Karen Huffels and Mrs Melissa McConaghy for the Unit of Inquiry they developed and showcased to other educators. The Unit of Inquiry has been selected as an exemplar and a local university plans to use this in their teacher education programs.
