Special Events

Our College runs a wide variety of special events each year and there are a number of treats in stall for this term. Please read below for more information.

Cathedral Concert

Please join us tonight (Thursday 22 February) at St John’s Cathedral, Anne St, Brisbane City from 7.00pm to 8.15pm and afterwards for supper.  The Cathedral Concert features some the College’s top Performing Arts students and the venue lifts their performances to a new level. It really is an event not to be missed. If students are attending the concert as audience members, we ask them to wear their formal school uniform.  Please click here for more information.

Story Time Fun

Pre-kindy children and their parents are invited to join us on Monday 26 February, 8.45am to 9.15am in the Primary Library to enjoy story time fun. Please click here for more information.

Grip Leadership Conference

Members of our Year Six cohort who belong to the Student Senate will be attending a Leadership Day for primary students on Monday 26 February. The conference is designed to give students a clear vision and solid understanding or what it means to be a student leader. Students also come away with many ideas for putting into practice a positive influence in their school.

Funky Hair Day

Funky Hair Day is being celebrated on Friday 9 March and we look forward to seeing many of our students in Years One to Six, supporting the Leukaemia Foundation by donating money to have their hair coloured. For those children who do not want to have their hair coloured at school, they are able to wear a crazy hair style for a gold coin donation. We thank all families for supporting this special fund raising event. It is going to be a lot of fun.  Please complete the Permission Form and return with money to Primary Reception by Monday 5 March.

 2018 Annual Business Breakfast

On Friday 9 March, St John’s will be holding the 2018 Annual Business Breakfast at Hillstone St Lucia, St Lucia Golf Links commencing at 7.00am and concluding by 8.45am.  Our guest speaker will be Catherine Clark – CEO at Netball Queensland. This event is free and we ask that you register your interest by clicking on this link.  Please click here for more information.

Play Date for Kindy and Prep

If you are looking for something to do on Saturday 10 March from 2.30pm to 4.00pm, consider coming along to our play date. These days are fabulous opportunities for parents to meet one another while the children play together in the Prep playground. We look forward to seeing you there.

Primary Cross Country

Our annual Cross Country for Kindy to Year Six students will be held on the morning of Wednesday 21 March. The first event, involving our Little Saints will commence at 9.00am and will be followed by all other year level races. Students should wear their sports uniform with yard hat and bring along their water bottle. The cross country events are expected to finish by morning tea. Families are invited to come along and cheer on the children as they participate.

Little Saints Easter Hat Extravaganza

Children in Little Saints Kindergarten are invited to an Easter Bonnet Spectacular on Wednesday 28 March at 9.00am in the Kindergarten Playground. Families who attend are asked to bring along a small plate of healthy food for a shared morning tea after the children’s presentation. We look forward to seeing you there.

Lakeside Easter Service

The students in Years Three to Twelve will walk to the Lake on Thursday 29 March for our annual Lakeside Easter Service. They need to wear their formal uniforms with hats and bring along a water bottle. We request that students arrive at school early on this day so that attendance rolls can be marked at 8.30 am and classes can depart the primary campus in a timely manner. The Lakeside Service commences at 9.00am and families and friends are most welcome to attend.

Early Years Easter Concert

Students in Prep to Year Two will present an Easter Concert in Living Faith Chapel on Thursday 29 March at 2.00pm, to celebrate the end of the term and to reflect on the meaning behind Easter.  We invite our families and friends to join us at this special event.

College Carnival

This year we have much to celebrate with the 25th Anniversary of the College being recognised and one of the special celebratory events for this year will be the College Carnival. We are looking for parent volunteers from each year level to help with different stalls at the Carnival.  The College Carnival will be held on Saturday 26 May.

Every year level (Kindy to Year Six) requires at least one person to be the year level convenor who will oversee the running of one of the stalls. Please contact Sandra Hawken if you are willing to assist with convening so we can finalise all year level stalls and advertise them.

We currently have the following Year level stalls allocated:

Kindy                    Toy Stall
Prep                      Book Stall              Stall Convenor: Stacey Johnson
Year 6                   Chocolate Wheel

Other suggestions for stalls include:

Things in a Jar
Lucky Dip /Lucky Sticks
Cakes and Sweets
White Elephant
Homewares
Lucky Balloons

We still need to allocate stalls to the other year levels and nominate stall convenors. Once confirmed, families will be asked to contribute to the success of the stall by helping on the day and/or donating items for the stall. For example, if Year 3 is looking after the ‘Things in Jar’ stall, all Year 3 students will be asked to bring along items to fill bottles or jars to be sold at the Carnival.

A meeting of stall convenors and interested helpers will be held in the near future to provide all the information that volunteers might require. Please consider how you are able to assist with the College Carnival. The more helpers we have the more successful our combined efforts will be.
