Primary News

The Australian Government is introducing a new Child Care Package which will provide support to families who need to use Before and After School Care and Vacation Care and/or child care for pre-school aged children. This new scheme begins on 2 July 2018 and will replace the current Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate schemes, with a means tested subsidy, which will be paid directly to child care providers and passed onto families as a fee reduction.

All families are encouraged to check the website https://www.education.gov.au/new-child-care-package-transition-families for more information and to ensure they are registered for the new Child Care Package and do not miss out on any entitlements. Families should register with myGov and use the online tools to estimate their new child care subsidy entitlements. The College is not able to do this for you.

St John’s operates two ABCC services and we ask that families register their children with both services (ABCC and EY ABCC) because we do from time to time need to place children in the service that is not their regular ABCC. By registering your children with both ABCC and EY ABCC we have more flexibility to provide care for your child when our staffing ratios are reaching their limit.  Registering your children in both services will reduce the possibility of your child missing out on care when enrolments are large.

The Child Care Package website states: ‘It is important that your family takes action now to prepare for the Child Care Subsidy to ensure your eligibility and entitlement is assessed. You should complete a Child Care Subsidy assessment or claim before 2 July 2018 to ensure you don’t miss out on child care fee assistance from 2 July 2018. The new subsidy cannot be paid to your service on your behalf if you do not take action.’

School Photos

Information about School Photos was recently sent home. Class photos will be taken on Thursday 10 May and on this day all Prep to Year Six students are to wear their formal uniform to school. This is to avoid students forgetting to bring their formal uniforms. For further information please refer to the email and the order form that were sent home earlier this week.

Mother’s Day

On Friday 11 May, our Early Years Chapel will celebrate ‘Mothers and those who are like a mother to us’. Family members are invited to attend this special Chapel service and assembly and afterwards mothers are welcome to participate in the pampering activities being held in the classrooms. Morning tea will be served to conclude the morning. The children are very excited about this event and we look forward to seeing you there.

On the same day we will run a Mother’s Day stall at morning tea and lunch time and students in Years One to Six are invited to visit the stall to purchase a small gift for their mother, grandmother, aunty or special friend. The stall will have a range of lovely gifts and cards with all items priced between $2 and $5. All profits raised will be sent to Bowel Cancer Australia.

The anticipated St John’s Silver Anniversary Cook Book with family loved recipes, will be available for purchase as well on Friday 11 May 2018 at the Primary Mother’s Day Chapel Service. This is a great gift idea for mother’s, grandmother’s or guardian’s to celebrate this special occasion. Eftops and cash will be available to buy this St John’s family loved Cook Book.

Grace Clark, one of our Year Six students has organised this special stall and we congratulate her on this initiative. The stall will be held on Friday 11 May, outside the Coman Building.  If families would like their children to participate, please send along some money on this day. For younger students, we suggest placing money in an envelope with your child’s name, for safe keeping.
