Deputy Principal – Curriculum

Welcome back to all students and especially the new students and their families who begin their journey with us this year. It is always exciting to commence a new year with new subjects, new teachers and new routines. This year the theme of our Seniors is The Amazing Journey and they have challenged all of our students to set goals for themselves for this year.  I encourage you to have a conversation with your child and help them to set challenging academic goals and develop plans to achieve them. To assist students with their planning, a copy of the assessment calendar for this semester will be distributed to all students this week. This calendar lists the due dates of all assessment items and examination dates as well as excursions, camps etc. that impact the academic semester.

External Competitions

The College has for many years entered selected students in a number of external competitions. We value such competitions because they provide the opportunity for students to become “test wise” and to pit their abilities against a wide peer group at the national level. Parents also have the opportunity to nominate their child to enter a number of external competitions. Included with this edition of Ripples is a letter explaining the range of competitions available, relevant costs and dates, and most importantly when the completed form and nomination fees need to be returned.

2016 Graduates

Congratulations to our two OP 1 recipients, Dominic Bowden and Chloe DeNys. In summary, 17 of the 67 OP eligible graduates of 2016 achieved an OP between 1 and 5; 28 an OP between 6 and 10; and 14 an OP between 11 and 15. 88% of OP eligible students achieved an OP between 1 and 15. 65 students applied to QTAC to undertake tertiary study.  Of them, 63 received an offer with 39 receiving their first preference and a further 13 their second preference.  We look forward to celebrating with the graduates of 2016 at the upcoming Scholars’ Assembly.

Learning Support

We welcome back Ms Tanya Bates who will take over the Learning Support teacher role this year whilst Mrs Lloyd is on leave.

Technov8 update

The roll out of student laptops for all students has occurred. The integration of information technology within all classrooms is one of the key tenets of the College.
