We have many talented students at St John’s and this month some of our students have competed at State and National levels in their chosen sports.

We congratulate Molly Nicholls on her success in Gymnastic trampolining. She competed at the Queensland State Championships and achieved the following:

Gold Synchronised Trampoline

Gold Double Mini Trampoline

Silver Tumbling

8th Individual Trampoline

These are very impressive results in a difficult competition.

Hunter and Poppy Weekes represented Queensland at the Karate National Titles. Both students won Bronze for kumite in their respective age groups. In fact, they both narrowly missed the gold medal matches by only a couple of points.

With karate joining the Olympic Games in 2020, the number and quality of competitors was extremely high. To finish in the top three in Australia at their first National Titles is quite an achievement and we congratulate them on their wonderful success.

We also congratulate Deeptangsu Maitra who came second in the Solo (Jazz/Contemporary) section and received the Junior Championship U12 Award in the Wind section of the recently concluded Brisbane Eisteddfod. Deep won the championship playing harmonica against flute, clarinet and saxophone.
